Halloween Safety, Be Safe this Halloween

CDC Halloween is all about fun, but neglecting safety practices can cause an emergency that will put an end to the fun quickly. Review the following tips with your entire family so everyone can enjoy the costumes, candy and parties worry-free!

Halloween Safety Tips

  • Swords, knives or other similar accessories need to be short, soft, and flexible so no one gets hurt.
  • Don’t let kids trick-or-treat alone, even if they are staying in the neighborhood.
  • Help yourself see and by carrying a flashlight and adorning costumes with reflective tape.
  • Examine candy and treats in your children’s Halloween bags for choking hazards or other dangers.
  • If you will be sporting makeup or face/body paint, test it on a small area first to ensure it won’t irritate your skin or eyes.
  • Look both ways before crossing the street, as there will likely be more cars, bikes and people out and about on the road. It’s one of the first safety rules you learn as a child, but it should still be practiced as you get older. Everyone should stay off the road and on sidewalks as well.
  • Children should never enter a person’s home without a parent, guardian or other trusted adult.
  • Be aware of outdoor decorations that involve open flames such as candles, and keep a safe distance.

We hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe Halloween celebration!
