Community + Security: The Alert Protective Services Initiative to Assist Chicagoland Places of Worship

security protection for religious grounds

Security protection for religious grounds is needed. In the Chicagoland area, we have seen an increase in violence and vandalism against religious buildings within the area.  This is particularly true of Jewish Synagogues and Temples, which is highly disturbing. Take safety and security measures to protect the sanctity of a place of worship and the people who congregate there.

At Alert Protective Services, we are here to help provide you with information on how to secure funding to help offset costs through a Federal Program available.

FEMA and the NSGP

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) launched a Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) to assist urban nonprofits in protecting against, responding to, and recovering from terrorist attacks.  Hate crimes against religious institutions, such as the violence and vandalism we are seeing around Chicagoland places of worship, fall into this category. Here is how you can respond.

Apply through the State Administrative Agency (SAA)

The SAA is where you would apply for a grant that could cover up to $100,000 worth of security-related expenses.  These expenses can include:

  • Contracted security personnel
  • Security-related planning, exercises or training
  • Acquisition and installation of security equipment on your premises

How can you apply for the Fiscal year 2020?

Obtain information directly through FEMA, however, please note that  there is a  limit of grants per year.  Additionally, determination is not made until September of 2020. If you are planning ahead, this could be a great opportunity for increased security at your congregation.

Submission to the SAA for 2020 Fiscal year applications deadline is April 30, 2020, no later than 5 pm EST.

How can we help you?

Recently, Alert Protective Services designed, installed, and is monitoring the comprehensive security system for Chicago’s B’nai Jehoshua Beth Elohim synagogue.  This grant available for nonprofits is more than enough to install an effective and full-proof security system.

If you need additional assistance regarding the FEMA program and how to obtain a grant through the NSGP, we are more than happy to help you.  We also offer free estimates, so you have the capacity to work with us directly, if you are considering installing a security system. Our team of professionals are knowledgeable  and have tools to get your congregation feeling safe again.  Our methods have been utilized across Chicagoland religious buildings of all types. We will offer guidance and reassurance by configuring a system that suits your place of worship best.

Reach Alert Protective Services directly by phone at (855) 433-6700. For further information on obtaining a grant for your place of worship, you can find additional information at https://www.fema.gov/nonprofit-security-grant-program.
